One of the biggest deterrents of a regular workout routine can be the annoying slipping of glasses when you’re busy getting your workout on. For years, I worked out with glasses. They would slip down my face constantly until I got Lasik corrective vision surgery. Afterward, I was working out without any issues! The procedure greatly enhanced my yoga practice and overall quality of life.
However, if Lasik isn’t an option for you, here are some tips you can use to keep your frames from sliding down your face.
Ways to Keep Your Glasses on During Workouts
#1 Strap It Up
Strap your glasses to your head. Use an adjustable glasses strap made specifically to keep your glasses in place. These nifty bands adjust to the size of your head, are thin and often unnoticeable. They’re also an inexpensive fix!
#2 Wear Lightweight Frames
Heavy frames can cause your glasses to slide down your face even when you’re not working out. Get a light pair of glasses for the gym and leave the heavier ones for normal day to day wear.
Aluminum frames are lightweight and some can even look thin and almost invisible. Having another pair of specs will also keep sweat germs from sticking with you when you’re not at the gym.
With that being said, it’s also a good idea to clean your frames after every workout with lens cleaning fluid or disposable lens wipes.
#3 Wear a Sweatband
Many times, your glasses may slide off your face because of how much sweat you produce. Wear a sweatband to collect the sweat before it drenches your face or use a workout towel to wipe off the sweat to keep your face dry.
Sweatbands can look stylish for both men and women yet be functional at the same time.
#4 Prescription Goggles
You can talk to an ophthalmologist about getting prescription goggles. These are especially useful for high-intensity workouts such as CrossFit and basketball or exercises that involve a dusty climate such as rock climbing or baseball.
Prescription goggles are probably the most costly of all the options, so make sure you will definitely be wearing these if you decide to go this route.
#5 Wear Disposable Contacts
If you’re privy to the benefits of wearing contacts, we suggest wearing them during workouts.
You can wear contacts on the days that you’re working out and glasses on the days when you’re not. Be sure to buy some contact eye drops and keep them handy in case your contacts become dry throughout the day.
Disposable contacts are probably the best because you can wear them on the days you workout and take them out and dispose of them in the evening. Wear them only when you know you’re going to exercise. They serve as a reminder to workout as well!
Keep a towel handy so that you can also wipe off sweat that may come in contact with and irritate your eyes. The last thing you want is the face lotion or makeup you’re wearing to enter and sting your eyes!
We recommend Hubble Contacts. You get your first box free and they’re meant to be worn daily or on an as-needed basis.
We hope these tips were helpful! Wearing glasses does not mean you need to sacrifice any other part of your life. Learning how to live your fullest life with glasses is a possibility if you want it to be.
