The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is an idyllic excursion located deep within the country of Chile.

We recommend staying 2-3 nights in Huilo Huilo. It’s the perfect amount of time needed to take in most of what the reserve has to offer.

At Huilo Huilo, you can participate in many activities including hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, snowboarding and skiing, snowmobiling and more.

On the reserve, there are multiple properties you can book your stay in. The ones that are most popular include:

  • Nothofagus
  • Magic Montana
  • Reino Fungi Lodge

We guarantee your stay at any of these hotels will be magical.

#3 A Hot Tinajas Bath Soak

We celebrated our anniversary with complimentary drinks and a soak in their outdoor wooden baths called tinajas. These are heated by firewood and are a great way to relax after a busy day of physical activity.

#4 Sendero de los Espiritus

We also hiked the Sendero de Los Espiritus (Trail of the Spirits) and saw also of interesting wooden sculptures along the way. It’s an hour-long hike that is easy for all levels and also leads you to the Salto de la Puma (Puma waterfall).

You can also opt for a guided night tour.

Things We Missed!

We’ll have to tackle these on our next visit and will try to visit during the dry season.

#1 Salto Huilo Huilo

We planned to stop by Salto Huilo Huilo on the way out of the resort but it was raining so hard we decided to bypass it. We’ll definitely have to come back to check it out. You’ll need a car to get to the entrance and the hike to and out of the falls is approximately 30 minutes.

#2 Sendero Botanico

Another trail with awesome tree tunnels you can walk through. It is 5.5km long and will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

#3 Puente Colgante Huilo Huilo

This is a suspended bridge in Huilo Huilo.  It was raining hard the days we were there and we did not get to make it to this attraction.

#4 Sendero Hoffmann

Sendero Hoffmann is a 7.5 mile trail (in and out) that will take you approximately 3 hours to complete. The trail goes along the Fuy river and ends at Puerto Fuy where the river then spills into Lago Pirihueico.

#5 Sendero Darwin

This trail was closed during our visit in September 2022. The trailhead is located near the Portal de Los Ciervos (Deer Park) and takes approximately an hour to complete. There you can see the Darwin’s frog dissemination exhibit and cross a suspension bridge.

#6 Cable Car Condo

This attraction was also closed during our visit. The gondola takes you to the top so that you can get sweeping views of the resort from the top of the mountain.
