About Scout Designs
Scout Designs owner and creator is Lisa Gindy. Lisa identified heavily with Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird as a kid. She became politically active by age 12 and eventually went to law school to work against domestic violence.
Lisa left law school and the US after some devastating losses in my family. For nearly two years of living on $3-5 a day, Lisa “scout out” the possibilities that this big, wide world of ours had to offer. The original tagline for the brand was “Life is full of beauty. Scout it out.”
When Lisa returned to the US, she moved to a tiny mountain town in Colorado surrounded by backcountry and continued to scout out the beauty of her own backyard.
Lisa ended up opening up a boutique and owning it for 14 years. She sold the store to start Scout Designs. Lisa took her sales experience, combined it with design and her affinity for outdoor sports allowed her to make a product that she knew customers would be looking for.
Scout Designs encourages women to push their personal boundaries and feel good about themselves! “We are all beautiful, strong, and capable of so much more than we think. I am blessed to have amazing people in my life who encourage me and show me what is possible. I would like the brand to serve as a platform that can do the same for other women,” says Lisa.
Scout Design Review: Rainbow Stripe Leggings
I reached out to Scout Designs and they offered me an opportunity to review their newest releases and offer a giveaway to Schimiggy Reviews’ readers. I chose to review the Vintage Rainbow leggings after I saw them pop up in a newsletter from Evolve Fitwear. I have been looking for an awesome pair of rainbow leggings and these looked the part. The rainbow really shows against the grey background and had a matte look.
How Does Scout Designs Sizing Run?
Per the Scout Design size chart, a MEDIUM would fit me best. I am a size 6 in lululemon for sizing reference. I received both the size small and medium to try and found that the medium fit exactly as described on their size chart. It was a comfortable and compressive fit. My legs also looked fabulous!
What Are Scout Designs Leggings Designed For?
As of now, Scout Designs is only offering printed leggings, crops and shorts. They offer a handful of designs which include rainbow stripes, geometric elephants and bows and arrows.
What is the Inseam of SD leggings?
The inseam of the pant measures 28″ making it great for taller ladies. I was able to wear the leggings over my heels.
How Tall Is the Rise on SD Leggings?
The rise is high and sits above my navel. The front rise measures 9″ and back measures 10″
How Tall is the Waistband on SD Leggings?
Scout Designs makes leggings with tall waistbands measuring 3.75″. Waistbands are made with a waistline seam which keeps Scout Designs leggings in place.
Fabric Content and Performance
- Fabric Content: 73% Polyester, 27% Spandex high performance fabric blend
- Fabric Feel: The fabric is compressive and thick. The fabric feels like Dharma Bums, Inner Fire and Noli Yoga fabrics.
- Fabric Performance:
- Quick Drying and Dry Wicking – evaporates sweat within minutes.
- 4-Way Stretch allows the pants to contour to the body.
- Fabric is compressive and is great high and low-impact activities.
- Opacity: Leggings are white backed and 100% opaque (not see-through). I did experience some stretching around the knees and bum area only when my hips and knees were bent < 70°.
- Fabric Features:
- Rainbow stripes printed diagonally across the leggings on a grey (slate) background.
- No pockets.
- No logos.
When Should SD Be Worn?
Scout designs makes leggings for adventure and every day life. Practice or live life in your leggings.
How Much Do SD Leggings Cost?
The leggings cost $78. I would consider them mid-range priced for leggings. Scroll down below for some coupon codes when buying Scout Designs.
Do SD Leggings Have a Gusset?
The leggings come with a triangle shaped, single layer gusset.
What Type of Seams are Used on SD Leggings?
Flat seams are used throughout the pant.
Do SD Leggings have UPF Protection?
Not disclosed.
Where are SD Leggings Made?
Made in China. Designed in USA.
What are Care Instructions for SD Activewear?
We recommend machine washing with cold water and hang to dry. We hang to dry on a foldable drying rack such as this one.
We did not experience any color bleeding. The leggings were very easy to maintain and seem to retain their shape and performance when washed this way.
Should I Buy Scout Designs?
Yes, definitely check out Scout Designs! The fabric is very soft and slimming. We recommend ordering per their size chart and size-up if you are between sizes. We love the clean striped design on the pant. The stretching to white did not bother me much unless I was in a very deep squat (malasana squat or utkatasana/chair pose).
What we love most about Scout Designs is Lisa’s epic story and how she is supporting small businesses around the world through partnerships. Lisa is making a positive impact on the world with a product that reflects beyond leggings that can be worn, but the purveyors and causes they support. I can’t wait to see what else Scout Designs delivers to the world of activewear!
